Call for Papers
The 3rd International Workshop on Computational Transportation Science (CTS 2011)
In conjunction with CSO 2011, Kunming and Lijiang, Yunnan, China
April 15-19, 2011

http://www.gip.hk/cso2011
(Papers Due: November 15, 2010)

MOTIVATION AND PURPOSE OF THIS WORKSHOP

In the near future, vehicles, travelers, and the infrastructure will collectively have billions of sensors that can communicate with each other. This environment will enable numerous novel applications and order of magnitude improvement in the performance of existing applications. However, information technology (IT) has not had the dramatic impact on transportation that it has had on other domains such as business and engineering. Transportation systems, due to their distributed/mobile nature, can become the ultimate test-bed for the computing environment of unprecedented scale. A related development is the emergence of  increasingly more sophisticated geospatial and spatial-temporal information management capabilities. These factors have the potential to revolutionize traveler services, and the provision and analysis of related information. In this revolution, travelers and sensors in the infrastructure and in vehicles will all produce a vast amount of data that could be interpreted and acted upon to produce a sea change in transportation.

The purpose of this workshop is to bring researchers and practitioners together in order to set up visions on how the advanced computational methods can be and are used for today's isolated IT-tools so as to model, simulate, and manage large-scale complex transportation systems. The emerging discipline of computational transportation science (CTS) combines computer science and engineering with the modeling, planning, and economic aspects of transportation. The discipline goes beyond vehicular technology, and addresses pedestrian systems on hand-held devices, non-real-time issues such as data mining, as well as data management issues above the networking layer. CTS applications will improve efficiency, equity, mobility, accessibility, and safety by taking advantage of ubiquitous computing.

TOPICS

The International Workshop on Computational Transportation Science invites submissions of original, previously unpublished papers on CTS issues. The workshop will focus on, but not limited to, the following themes:
- Advanced solution algorithms for multifarious transportation models
- CA&CTM models of transportation system
- Computational methods for uncertain information distributed among moving travelers/vehicles and the infrastructure
- Computation of costs of multi-modal traveling
- Computational methods in relation to intelligent transportation applications
- Data mining techniques for travel information
- Dynamic shortest path computations using forecasts
- Human-computer interfaces in intelligent transportation applications
- Information in pedestrian, biking, and other non-motorized transportation applications
- Mobile artificial-intelligence aspects related to transportation
- Multi-agent simulation of traffic/transportation scenarios
- Privacy and security computing in transportation
- Real-time negotiation among travelers
- Sensor information related to transportation
- Wireless communication with travelers and vehicles

SUBMISSIONS:

Original Papers are invited from prospective authors with interest on the related areas. All the submitted papers should be written in English, using the IEEE-two column template, including all tables, figures, and references. All papers must be submitted electronically in WORD or PDF format and be mailed to cts-2011@hotmail.com with the subject of “CTS 2011 Submission”.

All accepted workshop papers will be included in IEEE Computer Society Proceedings if they have paid for registration fee, which will be indexed by EI Compendex and ISTP. Furthermore, the  workshop organizers can recommend the extended versions of some selected high-quality workshop
papers to the special issues of the some international journals.
