try this link http://www.icase.edu/reports/interim/ and get the
paper of Achi Brandt: Barriers to Achieving Textbook Multigrid Efficiency. Brandt is a jewish guy who braught this technique
to western countries when he left Russia for Israel. This method was firstly developed by a Russian, but not known outside Russia before.
Multigrid works very well for elliptic equations and not well
for hyperbolic equations. So, this method is not so good for
transonic and supersonic flows. If you guys have a good look at
the papers of Jameson and Mavriplis, you can notice that they
use this technique mostly for low mach number flows. Even for
some applications in transonic flows, do not forget that Jameson
uses heavy artificial viscosity which makes NS more elliptic.
A Chinese guy (named Justin) in Canada is working with Jameson
to try to solve the problem of multigrid for hyperbolic equations.
Certainly, Brandt is working hard on it too. I wish your guys
can work alone or with mathematicians to solve this problem at
first.
The potential of this method is amazing! It can be used in many
many areas. |
