Linux下自己编程用什么语言，选择什么作为编译器，IDE选择什么呢？

在Linux下，自己编程，应该选择用什么语言呢，是Fortran,c/c++,Java还是。。。。？
编译器选择什么呢?
我现在是用Fortran和C++编程，编译器为Intel Fortran以及gfortran，集成开发环境是Emacs，Kate以及KDevelop..
