This was discussed in the papers by He & Luo (Phys. Rev. E, 1997). First, you would like to have a regular and symmetric discrete velocity set so that the particle transport can be accomplished by "advection", and second, you would like to have an explicit scheme, therefore you need a polynomial type of equilibrium -- any transcendental function would require some sort of iteration or implicit technique.
One can always come up with other alternatives. However, one must ask why. I have found many "alternatives" degrade the accuracy and efficiency of the original formulation of the LBE, thus it is not something I would recommend. |
